It can seem daunting to carry your baby in Winter, how do you keep them warm without overheating? Luckily we're here to help!

* Layers Believe it or not, multiple thin layers are better at keeping warm then one big thick layer, and can be easily adjusted if it get warmer or colder. Don't forget in the sling or carrier your body warmth and carrier count as extra layers! * Overheating The biggest thing to be wary of in Winter of overheating. Babies are less able to regulate their own temperature than adults so it's best to err on the side of caution. This also means you shouldn't put your baby in a snowsuit in a sling or carrier as it's too easy for them to get too hot. * Airway Another reason to not use a snowsuit in a carrier is an airway risk. Bulky layers can creat areas for the baby's head to droop, in the same way they increase the risk in car seats they increase the risk in baby carriers. You should also be aware of any scarves you're wearing don't cover the baby's face, perhaps opt for a snood instead?

* T.I.C.K.S. Always run through T.I.C.K.S. when carrying, especially when things are different to usual. Make sure the baby is well positioned. * Coats and fleeces It's worth considering investing in a babywearing coat or fleece (or hiring one from us) or wearing an oversized coat/fleece. It really can make life easier in the cold as you can dress the baby as you're dressed and be cnfident that if you're not too warm nor too cold then they are likely to be just right too! * Prepare Prepare for all kind of inclement weather, so extra layers to add (or remove) if needed, a change of clothing in case you get wet, and an umbrella is always useful! Assume the weather will change it's mind multiple times! * And most importantly Remember that we give free advice so any time you're usnure just contact us!
